On Thursday there was no band for most people but there was a concert preformed by the people that did go to band, along with other schools. On Friday we had our final music tech art session. We didn't do much on that day though except dance which was bad.

Week 6 Term 2

In week 6 we learned about ratio, I learned about all kinds of stuff, like when you do simple ratio you can just put the number and the whole number as your answer.  It's sort of like a fraction.

In tech arts we did music. In music we were learning about drum patterns, it was pretty cool. I already knew what I was doing, so I was aloud to go on the electric drum kit and do my own thing. We also learned some guitar patterns and keyboard patterns like we always do.

We were having inter house sports/ winter house sports, but I couldn't compete because I was playing rugby, that uses mufti, so I didn't bring my P.E gear. My teacher said that I couldn't do Friday sport because of that.

We also had indoor bowels, and there were some good people and some bad people, but I was more of an in between kind of person. At indoor bowels they were choosing 6 individual people in either the class or the school. I obviously wasn't one of them, but hey I had my fun watching people bowel their's no where near the target.

In week 4 we had a student assembly , witch  was awesome. We had a chocolate fish game were one person had too hold the fishing pole that had chocolate fish on, and the other person had to eat the chocolate fish off of the pole. The other thing about student assembly is that we have clips of the week, and our clip of the week was about a guy who was eating huis food like an animal, the whole school was laughing, really funny.

Tech arts:
`At tech arts we Were doing music which was cool, Because we were learning about the blues And we got to write our own blues.

What happened in week 2

In week 2 we played lacrosse. The guy who taught us had us do tricks with the lacrosse stick. The tricks we did were tough,We had to go behind our backs, under our legs, and another one. We also had to pass the lacrosse ball between our selves and our partners, Which was tough for us because the sun kept getting in my eyes and my partner was either throwing it too short or too far.

On that same day we had 4 different substitutes such as Mrs Shaw, Miss German, the Lacrosse teacher, and the new room 6 teacher. Mrs Shaw was just watching over us as we caught up with our work. Miss German was in our class room just before Lacrosse, and came up on to Sherwin park at different times while we were playing. The Lacrosse teacher was teaching us Lacrosse, and The new teacher was in our class in the afternoon to make sure we didn't get out of hand.

Overall what I had learnt from that week was that:
1: I learnt how to play Lacrosse &
2: I know that when you have to leave for the morning it can turn into the whole day.

week 1 Term 2

So last week we did maths, a lot of maths. We did work on geometry, shapes and polygons stuff like that. But we also learned about angles in a triangle and different ways to find an angle.

TECH: Tech was way more fun, on Friday we made fresh water out of salt water. It sounds like a lame science experiment, but it definitely beats doing maths all day.

Jump Jam was very exciting because we all needed to get some energy. Maths really took the life out of us, so Jump Jam was very good for us.

Reading Goals

This week we had our Student Led Conferences and these were my Reading Goals:

  1. To read more challenging books
  2. To read more books
  3. To read faster

Here is my plan of how I will achieve these goals.

1.  To read more challenging books I will go to the Library and use I PICK to choose:

  • books that make me think (e.g. non-fiction books that I can use for projects);
  • chapter books that don't have very many pictures in them;
  • books by authors I haven't read before.
2.   To read more books I will:
  • follow the read to self student actions during SSR;

  • read one book for at least 30 minutes at home every day;
  • read more than one book each day (e.g. I will have a book at school and a different 1 at home).

3.  To read faster I will:
  • read more at home because practice makes you faster;
  • graph how many words/pages I can read in 30 minutes once a week;
  • search for how to speed read and try to do this (my Mum is going to try this too and we are going to have a competition to see who improves the most).

I am going to give myself until the end of the April holidays to complete these goals.

Maths Goals

This week we had our Student Led Conferences and these were my Maths Goals:

  1. To get faster at basic facts
  2. To get better at solving problems with algorithms
  3. To write better learning reflections that describe more about what I learned

Here is my plan of how I will achieve these goals.

1.  To get faster at basic facts I will practise multiplication and division by:
  • using Mathletics 20-30 minutes each day at home (I might not always do it on the weekends)
  • using the Tables Mountain daily until I can answer them in 4-5 seconds (then I will do this 1-2 times a week)
  • changing the Tables Mountain so I can learn the division problems
  • using Maths games on the iPad and graphing my times to see how fast I am getting 2-3 times each week (e.g. Wipeout Wall and Division Descent)

2.  To get better at solving problems with algorithms I will:
  • complete all my class work and use the instructions and examples in the text book if I get stuck
  • write neatly in my maths book so that my teacher can read my work easily
  • work with Mum to learn how to do algorithms
  • practise solving 5-10 problems with algorithms at home each day (I might not do all of this stuff in the weekend)

3.  To write better learning reflections that describe more about what I learned I will:
  • search for examples of good learning reflections and check these with my teacher;
  • make a learning reflections checklist at home and show it to my teacher;
  • use the learning reflections checklist when I am writing my learning reflections.

I am going to give myself until half way through Term 2 to complete these goals.
