Reading Goals

This week we had our Student Led Conferences and these were my Reading Goals:

  1. To read more challenging books
  2. To read more books
  3. To read faster

Here is my plan of how I will achieve these goals.

1.  To read more challenging books I will go to the Library and use I PICK to choose:

  • books that make me think (e.g. non-fiction books that I can use for projects);
  • chapter books that don't have very many pictures in them;
  • books by authors I haven't read before.
2.   To read more books I will:
  • follow the read to self student actions during SSR;

  • read one book for at least 30 minutes at home every day;
  • read more than one book each day (e.g. I will have a book at school and a different 1 at home).

3.  To read faster I will:
  • read more at home because practice makes you faster;
  • graph how many words/pages I can read in 30 minutes once a week;
  • search for how to speed read and try to do this (my Mum is going to try this too and we are going to have a competition to see who improves the most).

I am going to give myself until the end of the April holidays to complete these goals.

  1. Again well done. I hope you have given mum a BIG hug for helping you. You are lucky that she is going to be around a lot more this year to help you to prepare for secondary school.
